Water thoroughly and regularly the first season until the plant's root system is established. Do not rely on rainfall or a sprinkler system alone, as they do not supply an adequate amount of water for a new plant.
Watering by hand three or four times a week is usually enough. In hot weather it is important to water more often. Be careful not to over water as this can be harmful to the plant’s root system. It can be helpful to contain water by creating a small “well” around the plant to prevent water run-off. Once the plant is established, return soil around the plant to natural grade.
